Prototype Collective is a filmmaker-run camera rental house in Los Angeles. It was built by a working Local 600 cinematographer who wanted a better, more personal rental experience.
We know how much the right gear matters, and how frustrating it is when something gets in the way of the creative process. Our inventory is carefully chosen and maintained so the gear feels natural, works properly, and lets you focus on the image.
We also care about how the gear looks and feels. Clean, organized, thoughtfully prepared equipment sets the right tone. When your job is making beautiful work, we believe that attention to detail should begin with the tools.
We stay small by choice, so every production gets real attention. Whether you are shooting a national commercial or a small independent project, your rental is never treated like just another order.
We see ourselves as an extension of your camera team, not just a vendor who hands over the gear and disappears.
You have direct support before and during your shoot. If plans change or you need something after production has started, you can reach us by text, just like contacting someone on your own team.
If we do not carry something you need, we can source it through our professional network and include it with your package. You do not have to open another account, arrange another pickup, or coordinate between rental houses.
